Thank you Mr Boulanger

Yes, he was the instigator of the TPV (Any Small Car), better known under the name of 2CV.

The project actually dates from 1939. The model has  a single headlight and with a body in Duralinox and Magnesium will not be kept. From 43 to the end of September 1948, the 2CV will undergo many modifications (price revised downwards by 40%, engine, etc ...) ... but above all, its aesthetics  !

Still marketed with 2 Headlights And 4 Speeds!

Called "Overdrive" on the first models or "4th" on the most recent models, it always remains a gear ratio in addition to the 3rd.

It is not uncommon to meet people who tell you that they have had:

"you know the very first 2CV, the one with a single headlight and 3 speeds .... and for the wipers there was a crank in the middle of the windshield ..."

What a joy to let them tell their nonsense and contradict them  sometimes.

Like what everyone owns the 2CV, even those who have never owned one.

1948, A Star is born

It was not until October 7, 1948 that the 2CV was presented at the Paris Motor Show. The 2CV is the bomb of the show. 1,300,000 visitors will come to contemplate it in triplicate and will queue for almost 2 hours to sit there for a moment ...

That year, the  2CV presented at the show, are ballasted by pig iron  under leaded hoods. Indeed the mechanics is simply absent. It was not until the 1949 show to discover the flat twin which made its reputation.

From 1949 to 1990 no less
  5,144,966  2CV were manufactured.
